MAJOR FLOOD DAMAGE TO SCHOOL

This message was updated on Monday 13th October 2014.

We were delighted to welcome the Nursery children back to school today and are very pleased that all pupils are now back at school.  The KS1 building is still in the process of drying out and internal walls are being removed and replaced.  The photos below, which  show our entrance foyer, halls and Reception classes, give some indication of the repair work needed to bring the building back to its original state.  We anticipate that the drying out process will last for about three weeks.

As of Monday 13th October, our breakfast club will be held in the Portakabin next to the school office.

We apologise for the ongoing problems with our telephone lines and the inconvenience that this has undoubtedly caused.  We expect the system to be fully functional within the next couple of days.

May we take this opportunity to thank you once again for your continued support and patience while the building works continue.

Work is progressing well and the Portakabins should be ready for use by our Reception classes on Thursday 9th October.  Therefore year 2 will remain in the KS2 building on Wednesday 8th October.  Our year 6 pupils will also be enjoying a further day at Cardinal Pole School.   Year 6 will return on Thursday, once the Reception classes have been relocated to the Portakabins.  We aim to reopen the Nursery on Monday 13th October.   The temporary office has now moved to one of the Portakabins and there may be some disruption to our telephone service whilst the lines are diverted to the Portakabins.  On Friday 10th October we would like to invite all parents/carers and pupils to a celebratory barbecue after school to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult period.

Our second Portakabin has been successfully installed and will be the temporary school office until our building works are completed.  Our Reception classes will also be located in the Portakabins until January 2015.  We are hoping that the Portakabins will be ready by Monday 6th October.  We are hoping that the Nursery will re-open on Monday 6th October but will confirm this by Friday 3rd October.  We would like to thank parents/carers once again for their continued support and words of encouragement during this transitional phase.

We are pleased to inform you that our telephone lines are now operational and you can contact the school by telephoning 020 8985 0995 and pressing option 1.

Please be advised that Ballance Road is closed to all traffic on Tuesday 30th September and Wednesday 1st October due to the arrival of our Portakabins.

This message was updated on Tuesday 30th September 2014.

We appreciate your patience during the road closure this morning.  Our first Portakabin has been successfully installed and we are awaiting delivery of the second Portakabin tomorrow (please see photos below).  Our year 6 pupils had a brilliant time at Cardinal Pole School where they were received very warmly.  Our year 2 pupils loved being in the year 6 classrooms and felt very grown up!  We would like to thank our year 2 staff and pupils for sharing their space with the Reception classes at such short notice.  We would also like to thank parents/carers for their kind offers of help and support.  We greatly appreciate this during this challenging period.

We apologise to any callers trying to contact the school by telephone.  We are experiencing technical problems with rerouting the telephone lines to the temporary office and hope that this problem will be rectified in the very near future.

It was lovely to welcome you all back to school this morning, we would like to update you with plans for tomorrow.  Our reception classes will be taught in the Year 2 classrooms, Reception A will move to 2A and Reception B will move to 2B.

Miss Nayda and Miss Tutton will be there to meet you and your children in the morning.  Our Year 2 children will move over to the KS2 building. 2A will be taught in 6A and 2B will move to 6B.  Staff will be there to direct you in the morning.  Our year 6 children will be taught at Cardinal Pole for the rest of the week.  The year 6 children will be registered at St. Dominic’s school each morning, then we will escort the children to Cardinal Pole on Morning Lane.

I visited Cardinal Pole with Mr Conboy and Miss Ross this afternoon and we were delighted with the space and facilities that we have been offered. The children have been offered their own playground and will take their break and lunchtime separately to the other children at Cardinal Pole.

Breakfast club will resume tomorrow and will be held in the school library.  P.E. kits will not be required this week as P.E. and all clubs have been postponed.  We will update you on Friday regarding clubs and P.E.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Portakabins are due to arrive on Sunday in the playground on Ballance Road, opposite the school, to accommodate three classes and the school office temporarily.  The process of making them habitable with heating, lighting and toilet facilities will start immediately.  Thanks to the support of local schools, some classes may also be educated at a different site for a short period of time.  I would like to give my assurance that our youngest children will remain on site at St. Dominic’s School.

We will be looking at different accommodation options tomorrow.  Staff are working tirelessly to secure a speedy and safe return to school.  We remain thankful for the continuing support of Hackney Learning Trust and Westminster diocese.  We ask you for your continued prayers and understanding in these difficult circumstances.  The school will remain closed to all pupils for the rest of this week and plans for the period beyond this will be posted here on Friday 26th September, if not sooner.  However, parents/carers are asked to check this page after 4pm every day for any updates to this information.

Thank you.

Dear Parents/Carers,
We would like to thank you for your continued understanding and support throughout this difficult time as work continues to repair the serious property damage caused by the floods on Friday.
The process of removing the raw sewerage from all of the Key Stage One building is well underway. We are without both halls, the kitchen, offices, early years classrooms and playground. The Key Stage Two building suffered flooding and was also contaminated.
This has been classified as ‘major work’.
The Diocese of Westminster and Hackney Learning Trust are providing extensive emergency support in order to ensure that your children are able to return to a safe and secure learning environment as soon as possible.  We will advise you as soon as we have received the relevant certificate of decontamination.  At present, the school is likely to be closed to all pupils for the rest of this week and plans for the period beyond this will be posted here on Friday the 26th of September, if not sooner.  However, parents/carers are asked to check this page after 4pm every day for any updates to this information.

We would kindly ask that you pass this message on to anyone who you know who may not have access to our website so that as many parents/carers as possible are kept informed about the current situation.
